New Year's Food Traditions

BY BRYANNA SLAYTER AND BRIANNA COX
Eat lucky food- in the southern US, black eyed peas and pork are said to predict good fortune. In Spain there is a tradition of eating twelve grapes at midnight for who knows why. In India and Pakistan, rice promises prosperity.

Drinking- the pop of a champagne cork is to symbolize the coming of the new year. Some countries have their own beverage based traditions such as wassail, which is a punch like drink named after the Gaelic term for good health in some parts of England. In Holland toast is served with hot spiced wine.
