Have you ever wondered why the candy cane is so prevalent around Christmas? The candy cane was said to originate in Germany about 250 years ago. They weren't always red, white, and curved; they started out just as straight white sticks.
Some time around the 1900s the red stripes were added, and they were flavored with peppermint or wintergreen. Sometimes Christian meanings are associated with the candy cane. It has been said that the ‘j’ also means Jesus and the white represents the purity of Jesus Christ while the red represents the blood he shed on the cross. The peppermint flavor can represent the hyssop plant that was used for purifying in the Bible.
