Spooky origins

Have you ever wondered on this Halloween day why you are celebrating and for what reason? The activities that come along have been adapted from ancient traditions. Halloween is a annual holiday celebrated on October 31st and has roots in age old Europea cultures. Historians have traced back the celebration of Halloween to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhein, where people would attempt to ward off the dead by lighting bonfires and putting on masks to scare off the evil spirits. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory declared November 1st as All Saints Day and incorporated pagan traditions. The day before was called Hallows Eve. Soon, over time these holidays would become one on the last day of October, and it was called Halloween.
