Real life Footloose in Oklahoma by Allison Jones
The story of the film Footloose came to life in a town in Oklahoma this February. The owners of Rosie Leavan’s Marketplace decided to throw a Valentine’s Dance in their store to raise money. Little did they know that they were breaking the law. The town of Henryetta has a law that’s been around for years, but never had to be enforced until now. It states that dancing anywhere within 500 - feet of a church. The store is 300 feet away from the church of Christ. Due to the complaints of so many citizens, the law will be abolished by February 22. “We just want to dance” - Joni Insabella, co-owner of Rosi Leavan’s Marketplace.
