A notable event that happens in November is Diwali, or the Indian Festival of Lights, started last Sunday October 30th and is celebrated worldwide by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains. Diwali celebrates new beginnings and good triumphing over evil, It also falls on the Hindu new year. The Festival ends on Thursday, November 3rd. The days in the festival are named and the actual day of Diwali is on the second day of the festival. To celebrate people decorate their houses with Rangoli, patterns made of colored rice or powder. People share presents and light candles and fireworks. There are a lot of legends used to explain the origin of the festival, one of the most common ones is the Lord Rama and his wife Sita returning back to the city of Ayodhya after 14 years in exile.
