Fernandez Killed

Miami Marlins' ace, Jose Fernandez, was killed early Sunday morning in a boating accident off of Miami Beach. Fernandez was considered by many to be on his way to becoming an all-time great. He was only 24. His wife is expecting their first child on Friday. In the accident, three men were killed-- Fernandez and two of his friends. Fernandez was known for his joy and passion when he pitched.
The Marlins canceled Sunday’s game in Miami because it was Fernandez’s turn in the rotation to pitch. The U.S. Coast Guard arrived on the scene around 3 A.M., and all the men were pronounced dead at the scene. It was later discovered that none of the men were wearing their life jackets and drugs or alcohol were not the cause, although authorities believe that high speed was involved. Players from around MLB expressed their sorrow on social media. ~ Nate Gaines
