MLK day

This Monday, January 18th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Here are some fun facts about Martin Luther King Jr. to celebrate his life.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Day is held on the third Monday of January, even though his actual birthday is this Friday, January 15.
  • His name was originally Michael, not Martin.
  • He tried to commit suicide when he was 12.
  • King was a regular smoker but tried to hide it to keep kids from wanting to smoke.
  • He entered college when he was 15 and had his bachelor’s degree by the time he was 19.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. got a C in public speaking in college.
  • King is the youngest male to win a Nobel Peace Prize.
  • He donated all $54,123 that he received for his Nobel Peace Prize to the Civil Rights movement.
  • King Jr.’s autopsy revealed that he had the heart of a 60 year old even though he was only 39. This was most likely from all the stress he endured.
